NHS Peninsula Cancer Alliance – Professional Placement – 2022

I was the first student selected for a new placement programme for media students in the NHS PCA. My role was to create media advertising and explaining services offered by the organisation. I was responsible for every part of the process: researching the PCA, pitching concepts to executives, coordinating shoots, interviewing staff and patients, and handling all field recording and final editing.

This gave me a strong understanding of the entire production workflow. Interviewing patients and staff on sensitive topics like cancer refined my interpersonal skills, proving I can communicate effectively and put contributors at ease as a sound recordist.

Launching a brand-new placement required me to establish the role’s scope from scratch. I worked independently to identify where media production could make the biggest impact to benefit the PCA, creating a foundational workflow that I passed on to future students.
